Client: City of Gretna
In the 1930’s a group of residential and community visionaries wanted to give a special gift to the future generations of their community. They wanted a safe place for their children, a place that instilled a vision of pride and maintained the area’s natural beauty. This vision became Gretna City Park.
Moore Planning Group, LLC (MPG) facilitated a renewed vision for the park through public workshop meetings including presentation of analysis work and citizens' visions. The wants and needs expressed by the citizens of Gretna included neighborhood identity, a sense of community pride, recreational amenities and aesthetic improvements. They also expressed a desire for nature preservation and education facilities coordinated with the adjacent school.
The resulting master plan was a community-wide effort that resulted in a true sense of place for the neighborhood and the entire city. As the heart of the community, Gretna City Park also serves as a regional park and international rugby fields.
