Louisiana College
Louisiana College is a small liberal arts college, approxi-mately 90 years old. College officials entrusted Moore Planning Group, LLC (MPG) with the task of preparing a Master Plan for the ±102 acres site that remained sensitive to the college's small campus atmosphere, yet reflected opportu-nities for future growth.
MPG's’ primary function was to design and integrate vehicular and pedestrian circulation routes that included entry drives, parking lots, plazas and sidewalks, and site amenities such as fountains, monuments, and landscape planting. Factors influencing the design included safety and security concerns, transportation access, accommodation of existing structures, student and professor housing needs, prominent siting of new buildings, orientation of new sports facilities, and the College's historical context of Louisiana.
Moore Planning Group made assessments of several public and private colleges throughout Virginia in order to develop an inventory of historic architectural styles.
The final Master Plan achieved all of the college's goals, and today Louisiana College serves as a reminder that it is possible to preserve the past and still plan for the future in a way that enhances quality of life.
